Visit the laboratories

One of the main features of ITS Academy courses is the focus on practical exercises, which prepare the students for an immediate entry into the labour market. Laboratories are therefore very important, equipped with the devices and software most requested by companies and always in step with innovation.

LAB3

Lab3 (Laboratory for Advanced Technology in Healthcare Repair Training and Education) is the first example in Europe of a laboratory entirely dedicated to the training of biomedical devices technicians.

The biomedical lab was designed to accurately reproduce a hospital environment, more precisely an operating room and two rooms for x-rays and CT scans, allowing extremely realistic simulations of different situations where the maintenance of machinery or the realization of products in compliance with hospital standards and protocols are needed.

The biomedical informatics lab, on the other hand, was designed to allow the student to exercise on design, development, maintenance and managing of biomedical informatics systems, such as medical records, RIS, PACS and LIS.

LAB3D

Lab3D (Laboratory for 3D print and Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality) is an innovative laboratory equipped with various technologies and instruments to support training in the biomedical sector. Created in 2019, Lab3D allows Engineering Technicians to be trained on the enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 related to the biomedical sector, such as 3D printing (additive manufacturing) and Virtual, Augmented and Mixed reality (VR, AR, MR). Lab3D was designed to enhance the students’ digital skills, making them more competitive and ready for the labour market.

3D printing was introduced because of its enormous potential in the biomedical sector: from the creation of prostheses to the prototyping of aids for clinical practice, from the creation of spare parts for biomedical instrumentation to the prototyping of supports related to disability and chronicity.

VR, AR and MR technologies are increasingly present in the clinical settings, from operating theaters to territorial outpatient clinics for early diagnosis and motor and cognitive rehabilitation. These technologies can also facilitate the education/training of clinical personnel and support equipment maintenance activities. VR and AR training also provides low-risk guided learning environment where students can make mistakes and learn from them along the way.

Collaboration with Elettra Sincrotrone

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is a multidisciplinary research center of excellence open to the international research community, specialized in generating high quality synchrotron and free-electron laser light and applying it in materials and life sciences.

Every year, hundreds of people visit its laboratories under the guidance of the center's researchers.

Elettra Sincrotrone is also a founding member of the ITS Academy Foundation for New Life Technologies A. Volta and has been collaborating for years in the definition of study plans, the teaching, the development of innovative projects and the organisation of educational visits.

By filling in a dedicated form, schools have the opportunity to book a visit to Elettra Sinctotrone and our laboratories on the same day!

The sites are located a few meters away, on the Area Science Park campus of Basovizza (Trieste), which offers visitors a bar and canteen service.

Are you a high school teacher? Book an educational visit to Elettra Sincrotrone and ITS Academy for New Life Technologies A. Volta!
